Have you ever been climbed like a tree? Well, if you have a 4 ½ foot snake that only loves you because you’re warm, it happens a lot. Doll is my 7-year-old female Lithium Spider ball python. We got her when she was 4 years old at Repticon for $400. The reason she was so expensive is that she is a female of breeding age. She was a proven breeder, meaning that she was able to lay a good clutch of eggs. A clutch when an animal lays a group of eggs.

The reptile breeders we got her from, B.R.A.C.E. Exotics, told us that she actually produced a never before seen morph, so she created a snake that the world had never seen. Like all pythons, she loves to lay on things that are warm, so naturally, she likes to slither on people. She loves to crawl across my arms and between my shoulders, she also likes to be worn as a scarf. Despite being my biggest snake, she is the gentlest. Unlike my other two snakes, she has never bit me and has never even tried to bite me. I am showing major favoritism between my snake children but she is my favorite.

Some people believe that snakes don’t feel emotions like love or empathy, but I believe that they do because I see how my animals react to me and my feelings when we interact. I feel like I have a deeper connection with Doll because she expresses more emotion and it seems like she actually cares for me. She also is the only one that unconditionally trusts me. It is mind-blowing to me that a small-ish blind animal trusts me enough to allow me to hold her and interact with her when she can’t defend herself well. She is not blind all the time, ball pythons shed their skin as they grow.
