“I’m no leader. I came because I had no choice. I came to save my home, and the people that I love.”

If you enjoy other DC movies including Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, you will most likely enjoy Aquaman, the new 2018-19 movie based on an underwater kingdom called Atlantis where Atlanteans, or people who can breathe underwater, live. This character originated in 1960 by the writers of some of the most famous comic books in the world: DC comics. Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman, is the son of an Atlantean queen and a lighthouse keeper.

In the new movie released on December 21, 2018, Arthur’s mother, Atlanna, is washed up on the shore and is found by a lighthouse keeper, Arthur’s dad Tom Curry. He brings her in and helps her and the two end up falling in love. They have a child, Arthur, and then Atlanna gets banished from Atlantis to a place called the trench where monsters live. She is thought to be dead, but she ends up going through a portal and can’t get out without the trident.

Arthur’s younger brother, who is an Atlantean, tries to get the trident and become the king to declare war on the humans. But an Atlantean princess, Mera, comes to earth to find Arthur, and tells him of his brother’s plans, and that he needs to go and become the king of Atlantis instead of Arthur’s brother. After a ton of arguing she finally gets him to go and fight his brother. After a ton of fighting, Arthur and Mera get trapped by the monsters from the trench and they go through the portal. They find Arthur’s mom and he faces the trial to get the trident. After they get out of the trench, Aquaman has to help protect the deep from further threats.

For anyone thinking about watching this movie, I would definitely encourage you to watch it. In the movie, there are beautiful scenes of the underwater world of Atlantis. The movie is a very captivating film and it will hook you into it. Out of all the 334 people that reviewed this movie on the Rotten Tomatoes’ site, the average rating was a 6 out of 10. Out of the 334 people that voted, 216 of the people gave the movie a fresh tomato, (shown next to their review with a fresh red tomato, which is good), and only 118 gave the movie a rotten tomato review, (shown by using a green splat, otherwise known as the rotten tomato, which is bad).

Although the movie only received a 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it was more fortunate when rated by Google users. The Google users rated this film and, overall, 94% of them agreed that this movie was good. With all the beautiful pictures in the movie, the humor, and the exciting scenes, it could be said that this movie would rank up to be an 8.5 out of 10. I would highly recommend this movie.
